In space technology, more and more structural adhesively bonded joints are used. These joints are exposed to the harsh environmental conditions in space such as ionizing radiation. In this thesis you will develop a numerical model to predict the damage in aged adhesively bonded joints. For this purpose the finite element software Abaqus is used. Previous knowledge is desirable but not required.

 

Your tasks:

• Literature review of the damage prediction of adhesively bonded joints
• Literature review of the effect of ionizing radiation on the strength of adhesively bonded joints
• Developing a damage model as a function of the radiation dose
• Implementation of the damage model into a finite element model
• Validation of the model with data from literature
Your profile:

• Basic knowledge FEM
• Basic knowledge in mechanics
• Interest in space technology
