The Fraunhofer IPT uses artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize processes in optics production. This
requires the use of machine learning (ML) models that can predict the quality of the optics to enable the
optimisation of the process parameters. In this thesis, ML-models for multi-target regression are to be
benchmarked and implemented for a use case from optics production.

Your tasks

  • Familiarisation with the state of the art of algorithms and methods for multi-target regression
  • Data pre-processing of available time series data from optics production
  • Implementation and benchmarking of ML-models for multi-target regression
  • Evaluation and documentation of the results

Our requirements

  • You are studying engineering, computer science, operations research or a comparable subject
  • Initial experience in the field of machine learning is an advantage
  • A high degree of initiative and team spirit
  • Very good language skills in English

the Chair of Metrology and Quality Management. According to the guidelines of the RWTH Aachen
University, the internship is preferably to be completed at a manufacturing company and can only take
place with us in exceptional cases.
