Precision glass molding is an efficient manufacturing process used in replicative production of glass optics with complex shapes. However, glass material flow and shrinkage influence the molding results strongly. The Fraunhofer IPT has developed integrated, numerical simulation software, which can predict and compensate this error in advance.

Your Tasks

  • Support the team to improve software, including writing APIs (in Python) to communicate between simulation server, the GUI and the database
  • Developing post-processing tools (in Python) to be integrated into the software
  • Building machine learning model to predict the geometric, mechanical, thermal and optical properties of the molded lens based on the experiments and simulations

Our requirements

  • Experience in Python programming
  • Basic knowledge about finite element analysis and the FEM software ABAQUS
  • Outstanding mathematical capability
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Good writing and speaking in German is a plus
