Webseite Chair for Wind Power Drives

The Chair for Wind Power Drives researches the behavior of drive systems in modern multi-megawatt wind turbines. Research goals include increasing the availability, the robustness  alongside energy efficiency of wind turbines as well as lowering the cost of electricity. For this purpose, software development tools and modern system test benches are used in a network.

For the improvement of the reliability of the gearbox of a wind turbine it is very important that there is a fundamental knowledge of the prevalent loads sothat itis possibleto consider them in the early stages of the product development process. A new scientific project at the CWD identifies dynamic loads which are a result of failures in the electrical power grid. In addition to that there will be an investigation of the dependency of those loads in relation to the chosen concept of the drivetrain. In the project there will beinvestigations based on a simulation as well as experiments on a WT test bench. Thereby a lot of measurement data will be generated. Therefore one target of this project is the enhancement of an existing data acquisition system. The enhanced system should be able to perform a data compression and pre-evaluation in real time. Also machine learning can be used to identify loads resulting from electrical fault cases by examination of existing sensor signals and training with measurementdata and simulation results.

  • Familiarization with the existing measurement data acquistion system of the CWD
  • Literature research on machine learning techniques
  • Identificationof significant loadson the wind turbine drive train during electrical faults
  • Development of a machine learning approach for the detection of the identified loads based on sensor data and simulation results

  • Motivation to work independently
  • Prior knowledge in programmingespeciallyPYTHON
  • A good overall grasp ofmeasurement technology is desirable

We offer:

  • Immediate start and rapid progress of the thesis
  • Intensive supervision
  • Flexible working hours in a young and motivated team

We look forward to your application by email:
